Joint Oral Statement of Association Ma'onah for Human Rights and Immigration and Geneva International Centre for Justice

Delivered by Rawan Al-Aqel /GICJ

Thank you, Mr. President

Today, racism and discrimination remain serious challenges affecting millions of people worldwide. Despite international commitments to equality and human dignity, marginalized communities continue to face stereotyping, stigmatization, and exclusion from social and public life.

These global concerns are also reflected in national contexts affected by conflict, such as Yemen. Civil society organizations have documented practices that raise serious concerns regarding racial discrimination and violations of fundamental freedoms. Among these is the case of Yemeni actress Entesar Al-Hammadi, who was subjected to arbitrary detention and an unfair trial linked to her public presence, Reflecting repression of personal freedoms and strict moral control.

This case is not isolated; rather, it reflects a broader pattern of violations affecting marginalized groups, including women and minorities.

Furthermore, reports indicate discriminatory practices in the distribution of humanitarian assistance by the Houthis, raising concerns about unequal access to essential aid.

On behalf of the Association Ma’onah and Geneva International Centre for Justice, we express our concern regarding racist practices by states and authorities obligated under the charter Durban Declaration. We condemn all forms of discrimination, call for the protection of victims in conflict zones, and urge stronger monitoring and accountability mechanisms.

Thank you.
