Urgent debate to discuss the recent military aggression launched by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates on
28 February - 25 March 2026
Joint Statement of Association Ma'onah for Human Rights and Immigration and GICJ
Delivered by Marina Timbalari /GICJ
Mr. President,
The Association Maonah for Human Rights and Migration thanks the Council for convening this urgent debate at a critical moment. This discussion follows our call of 2 March for immediate United Nations action.
We strongly condemn the ongoing actions carried out by Iran against several countries in the region, including the Gulf Arab States, Jordan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iraq, and Syria. These include attacks on energy infrastructure and civilian areas, in violation of international law, including international humanitarian law, and in breach of Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026).
These are not isolated incidents. They reflect a pattern of escalation that threatens not only regional stability but also international peace and security, particularly through risks to energy security and the potential spread of conflict.
The lack of accountability will only encourage further violations and deepen impunity. The Council must therefore act clearly and decisively. We call for a resolution condemning these actions, the establishment of an independent investigative mechanism, and concrete steps to protect civilians and critical infrastructure.
This debate should mark a turning point. Continued hesitation will only lead to further escalation and suffering.
Thank you.
