38th special session of the Human Rights Council on the human rights situation in and around El Fasher, in the context of the ongoing conflict in the Sudan
14 November 2025
Joint statement by Association Ma’onah for Human Rights and Immigration (AMHRI) and Geneva International Centre for Justice (GICJ)
Delivered by Mihretab Mekonnen Beyene
Thank you.
We express our profound alarm regarding the catastrophic and escalating crisis in Sudan. Credible reports confirm widespread, systematic mass atrocities and grave violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and International Human Rights Law (IHRL).
We condemn the indiscriminate attacks on civilians and civilian objects. These actions clearly violate the IHL and IHRL principles of distinction, proportionality, and the duty to take all feasible measures to minimise harm to civilians. We cite alarming reports of extrajudicial killings, forced displacement, and the systemic use of conflict-related sexual violence—acts which may constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity.
We are concerned by reports regarding the alleged involvement of external actors in providing support to the parties engaged in hostilities. These actions prolong the violence, violate international norms, and render external actors complicit in the atrocities.
We demand an immediate cessation of hostilities and robust protection for civilians. The deep-rooted impunity must be broken by ensuring all perpetrators are held accountable through credible, independent mechanisms. We urge full cooperation with the UN Fact-Finding Mission, securing the full realisation of human rights for all affected people.
Thank you.
