GICJ Oral Statement with Meeezaan Center for Human Rights

Delivered by Lian Martinez Moya

On the 21st of March 2022, the Human Rights Council held an Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Myanmar. One year after the coup in February 2021, the escalation of the conflict has endured a grave deterioration of human rights. Since their seizure of power, the Tatmadaw has been routinely committing extrajudicial killings, sexual and gender-based violence, mass arbitrary arrests, torture and other atrocities with total impunity.

On behalf of the Geneva International Centre for Justice (GICJ) and Meeezaan Center for Human Rights, Lian Martínez Moya delivered an Oral Statement where she expressed deep concern about the hundreds of thousands of people forced to flee to the neighbouring country of Bangladesh and relocated in refugee camps, facing precarious conditions worsened by the pandemic, with fires, floodings and security issues. We call for full accountability for the violations that have been and continue to be committed in the country.
