As violations committed by the Houthi militia against the population continue to worsen, the human rights situation in Yemen has become even more precarious. On behalf of Ma'onah and the GICJ, Rawan Hijazi gave an oral statement on 6 October 2022 to reiterate Yemen’s need for international technical assistance.

She recalled that the Houthi militia is allegedly accused of committing violations of numerous basic human rights through the use of extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, and torture. The use of sexual and gender-based violence is particularly concerning. Between December 2017 and April 2022, the militia has been responsible for curtailing women's freedom of movement and other rights, including the type of clothing permitted to wear and restricting access to birth control.

Ma'onah and Geneva International Centre for Justice are concerned about the Houthi’s continuous oppression of women. Hence, we stress the need for greater levels of international technical assistance to guarantee the safety of the Yemeni people.
