GICJ Intern Namrata Hazarika raised concern about the diminishing freedom of expression and association in Cambodia. In a joint oral statement on behalf of Ma’onah and Geneva International Centre for Justice (GICJ) during Interactive Dialogue with Special Rapporteur on Cambodia on Wednesday 2nd of October, she called for the strengthening of democratic pluralism in the state.

The two organisations supported the Special Rapporteur’s recommendation to suspend and reform national laws that silence critics of the Cambodian government’s policy. Additionally, she emphasised that the pandemic is not a means to limit democracy but rather it should bring about a time to advance it.
